Anglican Studies Certificate Program

This program is designed to equip students for ministry in the Episcopal Church. For those seeking ordination,
formation for priesthood is based on a program centered on collegial reflection on student placements in carefully
supervised Episcopal parishes and enriched by the weekly celebration of the Eucharist and the preparation of
the proper Scripture lessons appointed for the week. Episcopal formation also includes ecumenical education in general
theological studies, special academic work concentrating in liturgical studies, theology in the Episcopal tradition, worship
from the Book of Common Prayer, and regular training in the spiritual practices of the priesthood. The program is
also designed for lay people who wish to develop facility in ministry for the church and for ordained clergy who want to
enrich their ministry through continuing education study. All the academic courses in the program are open to any student
at Candler, and the Wednesday 5:30 p.m. Sung Eucharist in Cannon Chapel is open to all. For more information contact

Certificate in Anglican Studies

The Certificate in Denominational Studies: Anglican Studies enables those students seeking ordination in the
Episcopal Church to certify their preparation for ordination. Participation in the certificate program requires that a
student be a postulant or have the written permission of his or her bishop. The certificate is twenty-one hours in length,
and certification requires the following:
Academic
• History and Polity of the Episcopal Church (2 hours)
• Episcopal Prayer Book (2 hours)
• Anglican Theology (2 hours)
• Pastoral Priesthood (2 hours)
Placement/Integrative Seminar
• supervised placement each semester in a parish church of the Episcopal Diocese of Atlanta
• participation by students, faculty, and supervising parish priests in a weekly reflection seminar
(Total 12 placement and seminar hours)
Formation
• Liturgical Formation (1 hour)
