A Student's Perspective:Jared says: "Emory University Hospital - Clifton Rd is located on Emory’s campus and is approximately a 5 minute walk from Candler. I often walked to the hospital before and after classes. As a chaplain, I completed my visitations in 2 days every week, on Monday and Friday from 1-3pm. At the Hospital, my responsibilities included visiting a set number of rooms (10) to talk and/or pray with patients about their emotional, physical and spiritual health. Our job was not to proselytize to patients, but minister to their needs. Healthcare and faith are extremely interconnected, and working as a chaplain for 8 months helped me to realize what needs my future parishioners may develop." Judy says: "This experience helped develop my skills needed as a pastor in a church. I learned how to talk with people during critical moments of their life when they are making crucial decisions about treatment choices and/or working through issues of death and dying. It also gave me the opportunity to become comfortable in a hospital setting. My site supervisor and a chaplain resident were always on duty and available if a situation arose that was beyond my ability."
