The Contextual Education II sequence is a two semester sequence involving site work and reflection group time in addition to course work when applicable. Below are directions for how to enroll in Con Ed II.
All students are responsible for selecting their Con Ed II site. Students may have an employed position while they are enrolled in the Con Ed program. Students can use a church employment situation as their Con Ed II site placement, provided that the site is able to fulfill the requirements of a Con Ed II site.
1. Search our online directory: For a list of approved Con Ed II sites, you can visit our online Con Ed II Site Directory. These sites are ones that have been used in the past or would like to be a Con Ed II site. Their information has been reviewed by the Office of Contextual Education, and have met the requirements for being a Con Ed II placement. There you can search for sites in your area, sites that fit your denominational needs, and specific characteristics (high school chaplaincy, campus ministry, children's ministry, hispanic, cross-cultural settings).
2. Make an appointment with Dr. P. Alice Rogers: If you are in need of further assistance in finding a site, you can contact the office (404.727.4178) to schedule an appointment.
3. Attend the Site Mentor Meet and Greet to meet with site mentors. This informal gathering is an opportunity for you meet with some site mentors who are interested in having a student.
The site must have a designated on site mentor to whom you will be accountable. This person must:
The setting where you will serve should allow you to experience and participate in ministry in these five areas:
Review the Guidelines for Ecclesial Practices
[PDF 62K] for more information on appropriate activities for each of the five areas of ministry. Please do not consider a site that will not allow you to experience ministry fully in these five areas.
You will work in this ministry setting a minimum of eight hours per week. If this is a setting where you are employed, you may be required to work more than the minimum.
