The Program for Women in Theology and Ministry seeks to promote scholarship and programs which support, consult with, and advocate for lay and ordained women and their communities as they are called by God into diverse ministries.
We recognize that women come to Candler School of Theology for theological education for many reasons. Some women are on a spiritual quest, searching for a meaningful way to make theological sense of their lives; some women seek to explore the relationship of theology and Christian faith to professions; some women are preparing for ordained ministry; some women want to enhance the meaning and skills of their lay leadership and participation in the church; some women are preparing for specialized roles in the congregation as Christian educators, ministers of music, community ministers, church administrators, and lay local pastors; some women are preparing for ministries in theological education: teaching, research, scholarship, and administration.
Women who study at Candler School of Theology are creating new and diverse paths of ministry. Candler's Program for Women in Theology and Ministry seeks to serve support Candler women and alumnae and their communities in their sacred journeys.
Candler students who desire additional work in issues facing women may earn a Certificate in Women's Studies through Emory University. To complete the requirements for a certificate, students must take courses in women's issues at Candler and in other schools of the university.
