Information/Frequently Asked Questions

  1. Where and when is graduation? Graduation, officially known as “Commencement,” is May 11, 2009. The All-Schools Ceremony (for all of Emory University) is at 8:00 a.m. on the Quadrangle of main campus. The Candler School of Theology Diploma Ceremony starts at approximately 11:45 a.m. (immediately following the School of Medicine Ceremony) at Glenn Memorial Church.
  1. How many people can I invite to graduation? There is no limit to the number of guests you can bring. Tickets are NOT required for either the All-Schools Ceremony or the Candler Diploma Service. All seating is first-come, first-seated.
  1. What do I do about regalia? Complete regalia for Commencement include a cap, gown, tassel, and hood. These items are available for purchase from the University Bookstore located in the Dobbs University Center (DUC) on campus. The cost of regalia is $62.50 for the entire package of cap, gown, Emory black tassel, and hood. Priced separately it is $36.50 for the cap, gown, and tassel and $26 for the hood. If you already own a robe, you may wear it, but you will still be responsible for obtaining a hood, cap, and tassel. If you choose to wear your own robe, it cannot have stripes or any colors on it. The only approved graduation attire is a solid black robe, hood, cap, and tassel. The hood color for Theology is red. Candler has a limited amount of regalia available to borrow. Email the Office of Student Programs for more information.
