Thank you for your interest in applying to Candler! Candler School of Theology prepares real people to make a real difference in the real world. Our mission is to educate—through scholarship, teaching, and service—faithful and creative leaders for the church’s ministries in the world. One of 13 seminaries of The United Methodist Church, we are grounded in the Christian faith and shaped by the Wesleyan tradition of evangelical piety, ecumenical openness, and social concern. The final application deadline for fall 2013 is June 15. The application for 2014 is not available at this time but will be available in September. Please contact the office if you have any questions until that time.
Offers of admission for the MDiv and MTS programs are made on a rolling admissions basis. When an application is complete, it will be reviewed by the Admissions Committee. Normally, a decision will be reached within two weeks. Please note the application deadlines below and give yourself the appropriate amount of time to complete your application by the deadline for your program:

Application Instructions
Before you begin and to ensure a smooth application process, please review the Admission Requirements, Online Application Checklist, and application deadlines - listed above. It’s easy to set up and begin completing your online application once you’ve reviewed this information. After you create an account by following the steps below, you can always return to this page to login and edit your application until it is ready to submit. If you are applying for one of Candler’s joint-degree programs, you must complete a separate application for the second degree program with the corresponding school.
Application Procedures
Step 1: Start the Application
Begin here to create an account and start the application. You will receive an email with your username and password. If you are using a Mac, please note that there are known issues with Safari and our online system, so please use another browser.
Step 2: Continue the Application
Once you have your username and password you can upload your application documents, choose your recommenders, and complete the other required sections of the application. You may also return to your application to edit your information, upload documents, and more through this same link. Click below, or use the link provided in your initial application email, to continue working on your application. Once you’re finished, be sure to submit the application and submit any outstanding materials to the Admissions Office.

Step 3: Pay
After you’ve submitted your application, click here or below to pay the $50.00 application fee using a credit or debit card. You can also send a check or money order, made payable to Emory University, to the Admissions Office at:

Step 4: Submit
Be sure to submit your application materials, including transcripts and letters of recommendation, by the deadline for your program.
Notes:
- Detailed instructions for attaching documents are found in the Attach Essays, Resume, etc. section of the online application.
- You may email electronic copies of any of the additional materials to candleradmissions@emory.edu if you have difficulty with the online attachment process, but submitting through the online application will expedite your admissions decision.
- Regardless of how your attachments are delivered, be sure to label each page with your name.
Step 5: Status
Within a few days of submitting your completed application, you will receive access to OPUS, Emory’s Online Pathway for Students, where you can check the status of your application, including any missing items. This process takes a least a day to occur. To obtain your network ID and Password, click below to access OPUS and click on the “Obtain Network ID and Password” link. If you have trouble with this process, please email the OPUS Help Desk.
