Computer Lab
Candler School of Theology replaces and upgrades its workstations on a four-year recycle schedule. Eight new IBM workstations were installed during the summer, 2005. Two new I-Macs were installed in 2003. In addition, there are two black and white laser printers and one color ink jet printer for use by students, faculty, and staff of the School of Theology. The only charge to lab users is for printing, which is ten cents per page for black and white and 50 cents per page for color. Formatted disks and blank CDs can be purchased for $1.00 each. Software includes Microsoft Office 2002, Bible for Windows v. 7.0, Bible Works 6, Emory Online Services, and Internet Explorer. Students can make schedule changes and access their Learnlink accounts, the Web, and their email accounts; however, word processing is given priority in the lab during periods of heavy use. Additional computers are available for emailing and other Internet services on the first floor of Bishops Hall and in Brooks Commons of Cannon Chapel.
Computer Use Policies and Procedures
- Students must sign in and out on the use log, located on the front table at the entrance to the lab. Computers are available on a first-come, first-served basis. If people are waiting, time will be limited to two hours, and word processing will take priority over email, net surfing or game playing. Any computer unattended for more than fifteen minutes will be made available to another user.
- No food or drink is permitted at the computers. This includes water.
- Students may save their work to either a CD or 3 1/2" diskette. Either are available for purchase from the media center for $1.00 each. Files may also be attached to an email message and sent to your email address so that you can access them from any computer connected to the Internet.
- There is a charge of ten cents per page to print black and white and 50 cents for color. Payment must be made by cash or check. We do not use the Emorycard.
- Problems with non-working passwords need to be resolved by going to the Cox Hall Computer Lab or calling the Help desk at 404.727.7777.
- The computers have virus protection software and will give an alert if an infected disk is inserted into the floppy drive. It is highly recommended that all users install virus protection software on their personal computers.
- Candler School of Theology Media is a multifunction space. All conversation needs to be limited in this room. Cell phone use is prohibited.
