November 2, 2005, Responsive reading, Service of the Word, Cannon Chapel

Written By Bishop Woodie W. White

Leader: We Remember Rosa Parks…A woman of Faith, Dignity, and Courage.

All: LIKE A TREE THAT'S PLANTED BY THE WATER, SHE WOULD NOT BE MOVED.

Leader: We Remember Rosa Parks. . . Who "stood up" by "sitting down."

All: LIKE A TREE THAT'S PLANTED BY THE WATER, SHE WOULD NOT BE MOVED.

Leader: We Remember Rosa Parks. . . Who risked security and life by a simple act of refusing to give up her seat so a white man could be seated on a Montgomery bus.

All: LIKE A TREE THAT'S PLANTED BY THE WATER, SHE WOULD NOT BE MOVED.

Leader: We Remember Rosa Parks. . . who with quiet dignity and defiance confronted the evil of segregation and racism.

All: LIKE A TREE THAT'S PLANTED BY THE WATER, SHE WOULD NOT BE MOVED.

Leader: We Remember Rosa Parks. . . who without malice, violence or hatred revealed to the world, a system that devalued human beings because of their race.

All: LIKE A TREE THAT'S PLANTED BY THE WATER, SHE WOULD NOT BE MOVED.

Leader: We Remember Rosa Parks. . . who in affirming her own humanity did not seek to dehumanize those who sought to humiliate and oppress her.

All: LIKE A TREE THAT'S PLANTED BY THE WATER, SHE WOULD NOT BE MOVED.

Leader: We Remember Rosa Parks. . . knowing that without her witness and courage and countless others, rights, privileges, and opportunities enjoyed today would be but a dream.

All: LIKE A TREE THAT'S PLANTED BY THE WATER, SHE WOULD NOT BE MOVED.

Leader: We Remember Rosa Parks. . . and our hearts are filled with sadness in her death, but rejoice in her life. And offer Praise and Thanksgiving to God for Rosa Parks Who. . .

All: LIKE A TREE THAT'S PLANTED BY THE WATER, SHE WOULD NOT BE MOVED.
