Candler’s degree programs will help you discern the path God has designed for your future. We combine rigorous academics, extensive fieldwork and intentional reflection like no other seminary.

You will be mentored by a distinguished faculty who could work anywhere in the world, but they choose Candler because they value teaching, scholarship and serving the church—a rare combination in theological education. 

MDivMASTER OF DIVINITY

Designed for individuals who are preparing for ordained ministry, the MDiv integrates real life and real study that encompass two years of practical experience in both ecclesial and social ministry settings.

MRPLMASTER OF RELIGION IN PUBLIC LIFE

The MRPL is designed for professionals in law, healthcare, social work, education and other fields whose work requires them to navigate issues of faith on a regular basis.

MRLMASTER OF RELIGIOUS LEADERSHIP

The MRL is designed to enhance the leadership potential of those interested in Christian service. Students can choose from five concentrations to find the one that fits their particular gifts.

MTSMASTER OF THEOLOGICAL STUDIES

The two-year MTS program is for students interested in exploring theology without preparing for ordained ministry. Students design the program of study based on their area of interest.

ThMMASTER OF THEOLOGY

A one-year program of study beyond the Master of Divinity, the ThM is for students who wish to deepen their knowledge in a particular area of study in order to enhance their vocation or ministry.

DMinDOCTOR OF MINISTRY

The three-year DMin—with a 90 percent online curriculum taught by full-time Candler faculty—allows experienced practitioners to explore the latest in theological education within the real world of everyday, practical church ministry.

ThDDOCTOR OF THEOLOGY IN PASTORAL COUNSELING

The equivalent of a PhD, the ThD degree combines rigorous academics and clinical practice to apply and integrate theory and skills in both pastoral care and counseling.

BioethicsBIOETHICS AND THEOLOGY

The MTS/MA in bioethics prepares students to work at the intersection of religion and health or health care—in bioethics, patient advocacy or pastoral care at a faith-based health care institution or organization.

BusinessBUSINESS AND THEOLOGY

MDiv/MBA and MTS/MBA graduates typically enter the field of church administration, including investment management for church development, private wealth management and/or estate planning.

Development practicesDEVELOPMENT PRACTICES AND THEOLOGY

The MDiv/MDP teaches those working in sustainable development how to better apply their theological convictions or engage religious communities with greater openness; and religious leaders from developing countries how to address social and economic issues as part of a holistic approach to ministry.

LawLAW AND THEOLOGY

The MTS/JD is for students interested in a career in law, but have deep interests in theology, church life, ethics, or social and political theory, or for students pursuing academic careers, while the MDiv/JD combines academic and practical training in both law and theology.

Public healthPUBLIC HEALTH AND THEOLOGY

The MTS/MPH and MDiv/MPH prepare students who are interested in using an understanding of religion and theology in public health care practice.

Social workSOCIAL WORK AND THEOLOGY

The MDiv/MSW is for those considering the role of faith and religious institutions in community health and development, the care of individuals in poverty and crisis, response to systemic and institutional injustice, and issues of social transformation.
