Class Notes

Bishop Richard C. Looney 57T has been named the 2014 Distinguished Evangelist of The United Methodist Church. The Distinguished Evangelist of The United Methodist Church Award is presented annually by The Foundation for Evangelism to an individual whose personal ministry in evangelism has been recognized throughout the United Methodist denomination. As a member of the Holston Annual Conference, Looney served appointments in Georgia, Virginia, and Tennessee, shared in Pulpit Exchanges in England and Australia, and work missions in Peru, Liberia and Sierra Leone.  In July of 1988, he was elected by the Southeastern Jurisdictional Conference and assigned as the first Bishop of the newly created South Georgia Episcopal Area (the South Georgia Annual Conference) where he served for 12 years, before retiring. He then served as President of The Foundation for Evangelism in Lake Junaluska, North Carolina, as Episcopal Director of the Foundation, and continues to serve as Episcopal Director Emeritus.

The Rev. Charles E. Cox 56C 59T was a semifinalist in the Best First Novel category at the 50th Annual Georgia Author of the Year Awards for his book The Ravenwood Trade.

This summer Dr. Arthur B. Keys, Jr. 92T will retire from his role as president & CEO of International Relief and Development, an organization he founded, after serving in this capacity for 16 years.

George C. Payne 09T recently founded a grassroots environmental organization, Gandhi Earth Keepers International, based in Rochester, NY.

The Rev. Pledger W. Parker 50C 53T died on July 16, 2014. He was a minister in the South Georgia Conference of The United Methodist Church.

Dr. Charles Hillis 51C 54T 67M died on December 24, 2012.

The Rev. Roy A. Fiske 55T died on July 15, 2014. He was a minister in the Florida Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church.

The Rev. Robert Hendricks 56T died on June 7, 2014. He was a minister in the United Methodist Church, as well as an Air Force Chaplain.

The Rev. Lee Roy Collins 59T died on July 20, 2014. He was a minister in the North Iowa Annual Conference of The United Methodist Church.

The Rev. John Rufty 60T died on April 28, 2014.

The Rev. W. Roberts McIvor 71T died on April 15, 2014.

The Rev. A. Wayne Middleton 74T died on July 28, 2014. He was a minister in the Texas Annual Conference of The United Methodist Church.

The Rev. William Edward Baker 82T died on June 8, 2014. He was a minister in the North Alabama Conference of The United Methodist Church.
