American Baptist College in Nashville, Tenn. is now officially named a historically black college. Bernard Lafayette is among several American Baptist College alumni who became civil rights leaders. In a recent lecture, Lafayette notes that at one point most of Martin Luther King, Jr.’s staff members were graduates of the college.
