Candler student Jason Myers and alumnae Katharine Hinman 06T and Christina Repoley 11T recently were featured in a series on the Day 1 radio program and its associated Web site. Sponsored by The Fund for Theological Education and Day 1, the series was designed to highlight “the young talent that graces our churches today, and the power that they lend our faith institutions for reaching the next generation,” according to the Day 1 Web site.
Hinman, associate pastor of Decatur First United Methodist Church in Decatur, Georgia, opened the series with a sermon titled “The Faith of the Doubter.” Read the sermon here. She also talked with Day 1 Executive Director and host Peter Wallace about the relationship between her past in science and her future in ministry, evolution, and how to interest today's youth in joining the work of ministry. Watch the interview.
Myers, a rising third-year master of divinity student at Candler, spoke on why the church matters. He spoke of the church as a place that gives hope to the hopeless and restoration to those who are weary. Read or watch Myers’ commentary here.
Repoley gave a glimpse into the church at its best, reminding listeners and readers that the “church at its best is a community of faithful people that enables all of us to be more fully alive, more fully awakened to God's purpose for us.” Read or watch Repoley’s commentary here
