A new feature in the Interpreter Online delves into how a theological education can benefit the lay community and includes comments from Candler Dean Jan Love.
“We provide wonderful education, as do other seminaries, to people who want to work in the church, but who don't want to be ordained, either as deacons or elders," Love said. The story appears in the online publication’s March-April 2013 issue.
"They want to take care of children, or be vital to the Sunday school program, the youth ministry program or the worship life and music life of a congregation,” she continued.
Along those lines, earlier this month, Candler announced the creation of five new degree programs, each targeting a different aspect of the laity or inviting ordained ministers to strengthen the connection between theology and their ministerial practice.
